5 April 2019 Children’s Day in Palestine
5 April 2019 Children’s Day in Palestine is a day dedicated to highlighting the horrific treatment of Palestinian children by the occupying Israeli authorities. The day is annually observed on April 5.
The Palestinian children are subjected to abuse and brutal treatment by Israel’s military occupation policy. Every year hundreds of children are arrested and detained, isolated, threatened and terrorized. They are subjected to torture tactics that include being blindfolded with hands cable tied behind their backs and made to wait for long periods in uncomfortable conditions. They are forced into signing confessions in the Hebrew (a language that they don’t understand) admitting to alleged crimes committed. Little children suffer most the cruel treatment of Israeli government and many of them become traumatized by seeing their relatives killed or by the inhumane conditions that they are subjected to. The impact on the children is damaging; many never recover and remain permanently scarred.
Observance of Children’s Day in Palestine helps attract international attention to the violations of the human rights of children that should be protected by the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child that Israel is signatory to, yet disregards.
